In this workshop, you’ll learn how to initiate and carry out reappraisal and deaccessioning programs and projects step-by-step. You’ll hear about basic concepts of reappraisal and deaccessioning, such as collecting data and finding repositories to accept transferred collections. You’ll also delve into larger issues of determining ownership, considering choices, and making responsible decisions. You’ll have the opportunity to assess what your repository needs to do before beginning a reappraisal and deaccessioning project or program. In the afternoon, you’ll look at case studies provided by the instructors and participant-submitted situations and learn how to apply the Guidelines for Reappraisal and Deaccessioning to unique situations.
Administrators, legal professional, managers, practitioners, and records managers
Participants who have a good understanding of their own institution, such as organizational structure, policies, and collections, will have an easier time completing the first activity and will find it more practical. Previous appraisal experience is useful but not necessary.
