Activities:
The University of Michigan SAA Student Chapter had a very active and visible
year. Due to the enthusiastic efforts of the officers, students from all School
of Information specializations participated in chapter-sponsored tours, panels,
roundtables, and social events. The chapter also collaborated with other SI
student organizations to host several joint events.
Throughout the year, the chapter held occasional Happy Hours for students,
faculty and friends. The chapter also sold “Michigan Archives” t-shirts
to raise money to help send an SI student to the 2003 SAA Annual Meeting in
Los Angeles, CA.
In February 2003, SAA officers met with SI Archives and Records Management
(ARM) faculty during a curriculum roundtable to discuss the past, present and
future of the ARM specialization. A recent result of this meeting has been
the restructuring of the ARM Practicum, which will now consist of classroom
instruction and placement in area archival institutions for semester-long practical
experience.
