Call for Proposals: 2010 SAA Annual Meeting
Washington, D.C. - August 10-15, 2010

DEADLINE: October 2010

We are excited about the SAA Program for 2009, and in preparation for the conference, we thought it would be an ideal time to encourage members to think about possible programs for the 2010 conference. Regretfully, this past year we did not receive any panel proposals. The 2009 program is very focused on nuts and bolts archival issues, and there are very few examples of the panels related to subject collections. We would like to support at least two panels that look at gender issues in collecting women’s materials. We have had some really good programs in the past that have focused on women’s collections and have included conversations between archivists and historians, as well as programs focused on undocumented or the under-documented. We might want to promote a session that includes some of the contributors to the SAA Women’s Archive Reader, that will be published in 2010. We really need to hear from our membership to identify topics of interest.

We hope that despite your busy schedules and planning for the summer, that you will begin organizing panel proposals that we could endorse for the 2010 meeting. By the time the meeting begins in August, we will be close approaching the proposal deadlines, and for academic archivists we are entering the fall instruction season. Please consider organizing a full panel in advance of Austin and please share your ideas on the WCRT listserv. In organizing your panel, you will need to have a complete panel with firm commitments from the participants. You will also need to describe the panel in 150 words, and also describe each participants part. Note that you only need a description and will have a full year from the date of the 2009 conference to work on your presentations.
