Lone Arrangers Roundtable
SAA 2003 Los Angeles
Thursday, August 21st, 5:15-6:45 pm
Meeting Minutes
Welcome and Introductions
Interim co-chair Nancy Freeman introduced herself and passed a list to gather names of those in attendance.
SAA Business
SAA Council Liaison Danna Bell-Russel talked briefly about her role for the Roundtable. Christine Weideman, 2004 Program Committee Co-Chair, explained the process to submit program proposals for SAA 2004 in Boston.
Mission Statement
Discussion of the mission statement revolved around defining the term Lone Arranger. Several members suggested it would be helpful to clearly state exactly what constitutes a Lone Arranger. Nancy will make the changes and the mission statement will be formally approved at the 2004 meeting.
Election of Officers
Nancy Freeman was elected Chair with Russell Gasero as Co-Chair. Terms will be 2 years in length and overlapping so that each officer is elected for two-year terms but only one office is filled each year.
Newsletter and Committee Discussion
A Lone Arrangers Newsletter template was handed out and discussed. Many members were hesitant to endorse a newsletter due to the time involved to gather articles. As one person pointed out, Lone Arrangers are typically quite busy and to be a “reporter” for the newsletter seemed to be just one more thing to get done.
Instead of a newsletter, several mentioned having a Lone Arrangers listserv. Some people felt the Archives Listserv did not meet the needs of Lone Arrangers and it may be helpful to have a separate venue.
In the end, the majority of members felt a listserv would be more helpful than a newsletter. Nancy will check into how to set up this up.
Task Force on E-Publications
Nancy explained what the Task Force recommended and it was decided any further discussion on this could take place on the future listserv or by e-mail.
Future Meetings
The majority of attendees favored a lose structure to the Roundtable. Many also mentioned having a Lone Arrangers Luncheon in 2004 at Boston.
Another discussion centered around reaching other Lone Arrangers. Perhaps we could contact others through regional meetings. Posting a notice in Archival Outlook announcing the Roundtable could also increase our visibility.
Nancy and Russ, as Chair and Co-Chair, will be responsible for endorsing session proposals for 2004.
Minutes by Nancy Freeman, Co-Chair.
