Welcome!

In this page you will find information on the mission, activities, and resources of the Labor Archives Roundtable of the Society of American Archivists.

  • The Labor Archives Roundtable will meet in Washington at the annual meeting of the Society of American Archivists, Wednesday, August 11, 2010, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. (location to be announced)

The LAR meeting will consist of our regular business session and a presentation by David Keller on research he has done for a book on Seattle’s segregated musicians unions.

This is also to invite you to Gelman Library, George Washington University, on Tuesday, August 10th at 5:00 p.m. for a reception to celebrate (1) the completion of the new Teamsters Labor History Research Center there, (2) publication of How to Keep Union Records, and last but not least (3) the 25th anniversary of the Labor Archives Roundtable founded at SAA’s 1985 annual meeting held in Austin, Texas.

Please email LAR Chair Tom Connors tconnors@teamster.org and connors@gelman.gwu.edu if you want to attend the reception. There will be some words of welcome and introductions, refreshments and the opportunity to mingle with fellow workers in the labor archives trenches before the SAA meeting gets underway.

Also, be sure to attend Session 608 "Labor Records...and So Much More: New Directions in Acquisition, Access, and Outreach for Labor Collections" on Saturday, August 14 at 11am. For more information on the session, visit the SAA conference description.

We welcome messages of potential interest to the entire group including discussions relating to labor records and the issues of acquisition, access, preservation, records management, and the research use of labor collections.
