    <desc>
      <p>Beginning in late 2003, EAD guides have been created in house for all newly processed
        manuscript collections. Funding for the creation of the EAD guides was made possible by a
        grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Existing basic html finding aids for older
        collections are also being converted to EAD format. There are currently over 370 EAD guides
        available on the website. </p>

      <p>XML coded EAD guides are converted to html and uploaded to the website using in house
        software. Currently they are only being displayed in html format, not xml. They are listed
        alphabetically in a browse list, and manually added to other subject based browse lists and
        can be searched with the EAD search engine. Non-EAD finding aids can also be searched using
        a separate search engine. Eventually, links to EAD guides will be available through OPAC
        records for individual manuscript collections.</p>
