EAD XML finding aids are encoded using the Notetab Light application. Using a clip library created by John Nemmers (UF) and Chuck Thomas (FCLA), a staff member answers questions and enters data when prompted and the finding aid in marked up automatically. This method generally is not used to mark up the <dsc> section of the finding aids. Instead, box/folder contents lists are first input into MS Excel and then copy/pasted into the EAD file. Descriptions at the series, sub-series, etc., level are input using the Notetab clip library method. The XML instance is automatically transformed to HTML using Saxon and style sheets adapted from Michael Fox's EAD Cookbook.
Finding aids are made available primarily as static HTML on the Libraries' web site. In addition, the XML finding aids are delivered on-the-fly as HTML via Florida's union database entitled Archival Collections, part of the Publication of Archival, Library and Museum Materials (PALMM) cooperative initiative.
