Description:

This is a project of the Texas Digital Library Alliance, and involves repositories at the five Texas ARL institutions and the State Library. We are in the very early stages of implementation.

Current project participants are: Rice University--Woodson Research Center Texas A&M University--Cushing Memorial Library Texas State Library and Archives Texas Tech University--Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library University of Houston--Special Collections and Archives University of Texas at Austin --Alexander Architectural Archive --Benson Latin American Collection --Center for American History --Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center --Tarlton Law Library
Encoding Procedure:

Conversion of existing finding aids from all ten repositories (ca. 46,000-50,000 pages) will be done by Apex Data Services before the end of 2000. Project participants have received EAD training and have agreed to a basic encoding scheme for new finding aids, for which XMetaL 1.2 software will be used.

After the successful completion of this initial phase, we hope to secure more funding and broaden participation to other Texas repositories. Digital images will be added.

Delivery Mechanism:

The current plan is to make finding aids from all participating repositories available on a central server managed by the General Libraries at UT Austin, using InQuery as the search engine.
