Description:

The North Carolina State Archives (NCSA) is creating EAD finding aids for existing and new private manuscript collections, photographic collections, and select organization and state agency records. All new finding aids are encoded in NCEAD-compliant EAD Version 2002 while other finding aids are being converted from EAD Version 1.0.

Encoding Procedure:

The North Carolina State Archives uses a modified template based on the NCEAD standard template, NCEAD Best Practice Guidelines, and DACS, to encode its finding aids in NoteTab Pro.

Delivery Mechanism:

There are plans to incorporate EAD documents into the Manuscripts and Archives Reference System (MARS), an XML-based online catalog database available at http://www.ncarchives.dcr.state.nc.us. Until EAD documents are added to MARS, complete finding aids are available at http://www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/archives/ead/default.htm. These finding aids enhance the descriptions found in MARS, particularly for those collections that have previously only been described to the collection level.
