Film archivists Snowden Becker and Katie
Trainor are co-founders of International Home Movie Day, a worldwide, grass-roots film preservation festival that is now in its third year. Through Home Movie Day events, over 2,000 participants have met archivists from their local communities and learned about home film preservation and the historic value of amateur films.
Becker is Public Access Coordinator for the Academy Film Archives
and works with Academy curators, library staff, preservationists, and outside
researchers to improve access to and awareness of the Academy’s 110,000-item collection. She holds an MLIS degree from UCLA with emphasis in moving image preservation and museum collections management.
Trainor is Film Preservationist for the Jerome Hill collection
at the Museum of Modern Art’s Film Preservation center. Since completing her studies at the George Eastman House’s Selznick School of Film Preservation, she has served as a film Projectionist and programmer in venues throughout North America, including the prestigious Sundance Film Festival and the Jacob Burns Film Center in upstate New York.
