Diane Ducharme

Diane Ducharme has been an archivist with the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale since 1988. She has been cataloging Early Modern British and American manuscript items since 1994, and in that role has cataloged hundreds of single-item manuscripts, ranging from seventeenth-century sermon notes and commonplace books through twentieth century plays and family scrapbooks. Recently, she oversaw the retrospective conversion and standardization of thousands of older, student-generated item descriptions for Beinecke’s Osborn Collection. In addition, she has processed historical and literary manuscript collections, including the multi-century Boswell Collection (1428-1936) and the papers of American playwright Thornton Wilder.

A member of SAA for many years, Diane is currently Web Liaison for the Description Section as well as SAA Liaison to the Manuscript Working Group of the RBMS Bibliographic Standards Committee, which is charged with developing guidelines for item-level description of post-1600 manuscripts. She has delivered papers and chaired sessions at SAA, New England Archivists, and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference, and has taught the identification and cataloging of 19th century literary manuscripts in the Beinecke workshop “Processing Literary Manuscripts.”

Diane holds an M.A. and an M.Phil. in Medieval Studies from Yale, as well as a B.A. in English from Providence College. She is a member of the Academy of Certified Archivists
