Gregory Colati
Greg Colati was appointed Digital Initiatives Coordinator for the
Penrose Library in December, 2005. In this position he directs the expansion
of digital resources and content at Penrose Library and oversees the Library’s
overall technology systems and Systems Department. He is charged with identifying,
evaluating, and recommending software solutions, standards-based methods and
best practices related to access to digital resources, web design and web-based
applications and the development of digital preservation strategies.
Greg comes
to this position with more than 14 years of progressive experience in academic
and research libraries managing and directing digital and archive
collections. Most recently he served as the Head of Special Collections and
University Archives at George Washington University in Washington, DC. He
directed the operations and development of a department with holdings of more
than 60,000
books and 5,000 feet of archival and manuscript material. These collections
included a separate library of 18,000 books of the I. Edward Kiev Judaica
Collection, a research center dedicated to the study of African American history
in Washington,
DC, and material that focuses on the history and development of the city
of Washington, plus the official records of the University.
He has also served
as the Director of Digital Collections and Archives at Tufts University in
Medford, Massachusetts where he directed the implementation
of a FEDORA-based digital library and repository and the IMLS-funded project “Boston
Streets” an interactive geo-spatial mapping tool to study the history
of Boston and its people.
He has an MLS from Simmons College GSLIS, and a M.A.
in History from Trinity College (Conn.).
