Overview of Committee on Education Process for Workshop Development
To ensure value and relevance of workshops/continuing education offerings, the SAA Committee on
Education:
- Accepts proposals for new workshops and other continuing education activities on an ongoing basis, although the deadline for proposals for Pre-Conference Workshops will still be in early October of each year.
- Identifies new workshop topics, and
- Seeks input from appropriate Sections and Roundtables about content, format, and potential instructors for identified continuing education needs.
- Publishes the Proposal Evaluation Form; and,
- Guidelines for an ideal proposal on its website to encourage submissions with sufficient content for effective evaluation by the Education Committee.
- Reviews proposals with the aid of specific topic experts using the SAA Reviewer Form.
Proposals for new education programs may be developed with specific groups in mind or for the
broader SAA audience. We especially welcome programs that build on or enhance existing SAA
workshops, seminars, or tracks. For a complete listing of SAA programs visit the Continuing
Professional Education Catalog.
Programs are presented in one of the following formats:
- Workshop: Intensive, problem-focused learning experience that actively involves up to 30
participants in identifying and analyzing problems and in developing and evaluating solutions.
- Seminar: Educational session in which 40+ participants obtain information from a knowledgeable
resource person in a given content area, allowing time for questions, interaction, and discussion.
- Web Seminars: 90-Minute session involving the use of a PC and telephone, allowing instructors to
present a short program using a PowerPoint presentation and interacting with registrants via phone
and email.
- Other acceptable delivery formats are outlined in Appendix 3 of the Guidelines for Archival
Continuing Education (ACE).
We encourage potential developers/instructors to contact the Education director, Solveig De Sutter, or
the Education Committee chair, with questions about any part of this process.
