Background to Cheney Supreme Court Case
The U.S. Supreme Court on June
24 directed the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit
to rule on Vice President Richard Cheney’s claim that he cannot be
subjected to the discovery process in a suit filed by the Sierra Club and
Judicial Watch regarding the Vice President’s Energy Task Force. The
Court declined to address Cheney’s argument that his office is categorically
exempt from discovery. SAA was one of nine organizations that filed an amicus
curiae brief in the matter and that issued a statement following
the Court’s decision.
