The Council is especially interested in learning about any activities that individuals and groups may be undertaking to address these priorities.

EAD Tag Library now available via ePublications

The full version of the Encoded Archival Description: Tag Library (Version 2002) is now available for download. An essential tool for archivists, librarians, and allied professionals. It lists and defines elements and attributes and indicates their relationship to one another. [Download here]

Janet Ceja and Harrison Inefuku Awarded Mosaic Scholarships

SAA has awarded its new Mosaic Scholarship to two minority students pursuing graduate education in archival science: Janet Ceja of the University of Pittsburgh and Harrison Inefuku of the University of British Columbia. The Mosaic Scholarship provides $5,000 in financial aid and offers mentoring support to encourage students to pursue a career as an archivist. [Read more]

Entire Run of American Archivist to be Online this Fall

OCLC is digitizing 242 back issues of the American Archivist—from January 1938 through Fall/Winter 2000. The first batch of 47 issues was dispatched for digitization in April. Four other batches will be sent across the summer. [Read More]

American Archivist in JSTOR

SAA signed an agreement in April to have American Archivist participate in JSTOR, an independent not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to making a wide range of intellectual content available in a trusted digital archive. [Read More]

SAA Submits Comments on Alternative Models for Presidential Libraries

Responding to a Request for Information from the National Archives and Records Administration, SAA provided comments on "cost effective ways of modifying the present system for archiving and providing public access to Presidential records." Enforcing Ethics

March 20, 2009 – In the last few months there has been a discussion, primarily on the Archives and Archivists Listserv, about enforcing SAA’s Code of Ethics in light of a researcher’s allegations about the National Archives and Records Administration. The Library of Congress and the Foundation Center have published “Foundation Grants for Preservation in Libraries, Archives, and Museums.” This guide lists 1,725 grants of $5,000 or more awarded by 474 foundations from 2003 through 2007. The publication includes hotlinks to free online grant writing tutorials, a statistical analysis of grant funding, state-by-state descriptions of projects funded in preservation, indexes of recipients, and a list of all foundations that have donated to preservation.
