Fellows' Steering Committee
I. Purpose
The Fellows’ Steering Committee oversees program activities of the Fellows
of the Society of American Archivists.
II. Committee Selection, Size, and Length of Term
The committee shall consist of five Fellows of the Society appointed by the
Vice President/President-elect for staggered three-year terms. The Vice President/President-elect
will designate one member of the committee to serve as chair.
III. Duties and Responsibilities
To fulfill its mission as described above, the Fellows Steering Committee
is specifically charged with the following:
- Organizing a program (on a topic of professional relevance and drawing
primarily on the expertise and experience of Fellows, as reflected on the
Fellows’ SAA email list) for the Fellows each year at the Society’s
annual meeting;
- Advising the Council and other Society members as appropriate on fund-raising
initiatives (including annual giving, planned giving, and other ideas as
they might be proposed) for the Fellows, as well as on how the funds that
are raised might be expended;
- Suggesting initiatives (including, for example, sessions at the annual
meeting, grant-funded projects, or agenda items for constituent groups) germane
to the Society’s mission and goals that might be undertaken;
- Serving generally as an informal sounding board in those situations in
which the expertise and experience of Fellows can contribute to the well-being
of the Society in particular and, through it, the profession more generally.
IV. Reporting Procedures
The committee chair prepares a formal written report to Council in the spring
of each year. In addition, the committee advises Council during the course
of the year via communication with the committee’s council liaison.
The Council shall review the Fellows’ Steering Committee after five
years (that is, in 2007) to determine whether it is effective and whether it
warrants continuation. There should be thereafter a periodic review of the
Steering Committee on a schedule to be determined by Council.
V. Meetings
The committee meets at the SAA annual meeting. In addition, the committee
consults by e-mail, mail, telephone, and/or in person during the course of
the year as is necessary to conduct the committee’s business.
