cubic foot
Definition n. ~ 1. A volume of space that is approximately 12 × 12 × 12 inches. – 2. Records · A measure used to indicate the quantity of materials, commonly used to describe the size of large collections.
Notes Because the surface of a standard file folder (10 × 12 inches) is roughly a square foot, a linear foot of files is roughly a cubic foot. A records center box, which measures approximately 10 × 12 × 16 inches, is generally counted as a cubic foot, even though it is slightly larger.
