Archives Director

A.A. World Services, Inc. is looking for an outstanding individual to lead our Archives Department as an Archives Director.

The Archives Director reports to the General Manager and oversees the administrative, operational and financial management of the Archives department in the General Service Office. The Archives Director is primarily responsible for the oversight and adherence of the department's policies and procedures. In addition, the director manages four full-time and two part-time employees and is responsible for the financial management and budgeting of the Archives department, including budget proposals for electronic records management systems, archives maintenance costs and professional costs.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plans and directs daily workflow and departmental projects, including accessioning, processing, describing, cataloging, preserving, digitizing, and exhibiting archival materials, as well as the training of archives employees.
  2. Develops written policies, procedures, reports and plans to ensure that the operation of G.S.O. Archives conforms to the best practices in the archives field.
  3. Travels, conducts presentations, and corresponds with area district archivists from 90+ Alcoholics Anonymous regions/areas regarding archival policies, procedures, and recommendations for the creation and maintenance of local archival collections.
  4. Conducts non-routine, in-depth research projects for AA members, trustees, directors, staff, and outside researchers; works to ensure that archival materials and the history of AA are accessible and available for the Fellowship.
  5. Serves as secretary to the trustees' Archives Committee and the Conference Archives Committee, preparing background, writing minutes and reports, serving subcommittees, and providing guidance and information at all committee meetings.
  6. Collaborates with Department Managers and Staff to orchestrate office wide projects, as well as, working on a wide variety of inter-office committees.
  7. Continues professional development and training by attending archives workshops and conferences to keep up with new trends in the archives profession.
  8. Works with outside vendors contracted for departmental projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduate degree in Library & Information Science or Archives Management.
  2. 5-plus years of experience working in an archive or special library, including experience with large scale digitization projects and digital document management.
  3. Working knowledge of both traditional and electronic records management, including policies and procedures.
  4. Excellent computer skills; experience in bibliographic databases, digitizing and internet searches; skills in design and management of archival information retrieval systems.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and expertise presenting to audiences large and small.
  6. Management experience and skills in efficient project management.
  7. Knowledge of copyright law, records retention regulations, and experience in implementing records management programs.

Salary Range: $60k-$74,999
