Assistant Archivist for Technical Services

The Niels Bohr Library & Archives is seeking an Assistant Archivist for Technical Services to develop, implement, and support digital initiatives and archival access systems within the Library & Archives and the Visual Archives. Knowledge of physics not required. The Assistant Archivist works with a team of archivists, librarians, and historians in a collegial environment. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordination of work with AIP information technology staff and systems administrators, cataloging and creation of metadata for archival, photo, and video collections, and administration of library databases and creation of reports for fellow staff.  In addition he/she will be responsible for the development and maintenance of processes to transform metadata across schemas and into human-readable forms, creation of documentation and training of staff in new procedures, processing archival collections, keeping abreast of developments in archival and library information technology.  This position will be serving regular rotation at reference desk.

Qualifications:

ALA-accredited M.L.S. with archival training or experience, or M.A. in history with specialization in archives is required. Experience with XML and databases; and experience with descriptive standards and metadata schemas, including DACS, ISAD(G), MARC21, and EAD is also required. Knowledge of Unix and Windows 2000/XP environments and server software, SQL, XSLT and at least one scripting language such as Python, Perl, Ruby, or PHP is desired; as well as, Microsoft Access as well as experience with project management and with SirsiDynix Horizon.  Evidence of innovation using emerging information technologies, including the ability to develop concepts from idea to implementation is required.  He/she must be able to lift 40 pound boxes of library materials.  The qualified candidate must be comfortable in a small, flexible work environment that puts a premium on team interaction and personal motivation. A background in science or experience with scientific records is not required.
