Senior Archives Associate

Arranges and describes archival collections. Provides historical research assistance and records for patrons. Maintains archival database. Prepares and installs historical exhibits. Digitizes collections and creates metadata work. Works with Head of Archival Services on retention and disposal of archival records. Assists in planning and overall operation of archives. Trains and supervises student assistants. Manages department in Head's absence. Gathers and organizes statistics and prepares reports.
Required: Relevant Bachelor's Degree. Minimum of 2 years experience in arranging and describing archival collections. Some knowledge of local, regional, and national history. Ability to design and install historical exhibits. Ability to organize records, statistics, and collections; familiarity with historical research methods. Strong customer service ethic and demonstrated appreciation for and effectiveness with a diverse clientele; ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently; basic knowledge of archival principles and practices; excellent organizational and communication skills; advanced computer skills; and the ability to stand/walk on rough surfaces for long periods, bend and/or stoop, and lift heavy items up to 50 lbs.
Preferred: MA in public history and/or ALA accredited MLS with concentration in archival studies. Basic knowledge of archival appraisal. Knowledge and ability to use various scanning equipment and software. Knowledge of basic archival preservation/conservation methods.
Salary Range: Minimum $30,000
