Visiting Archivist

Rollins College
Olin Library
Winter Park, FL

The Olin Library at Rollins College invites applications for a visiting archivist working in its Archives & Special Collections. This is a fixed-term appointment anticipated to begin on or around July 1st and ending on or around December 1st 2008 to replace our current archivist during sabbatical leave.

Reporting to the library director, the visiting archivist supervises one full time staff member and is responsible for the collection, arrangement, description, and preservation of college records of enduring value and special collections housed in the department. In addition to the standard arrangement and description of the collections and the preparation of comprehensive finding aids, the visiting archivist will supervise and participate in continuing development of the Rollins Digital Archives, public service functions that include archival reference services, class visits, special displays and various outreach activities. The visiting archivist will be responsible for overseeing archival policies and procedures, supervising student assistants and departmental collection development; and performing other professional duties as assigned.

Required: Significant experience working in an archives or special collections department or substantial coursework completed towards a graduate degree program in library science from an ALA-accredited program, or an M.A. degree in American History with an archival track.

Strongly Preferred: A graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program, or an M.A. degree in American History with an archival track; and recent experience creating descriptive tools for archival collections.

The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and be able to work effectively in a team-based library organization within an intellectually and culturally diverse academic community. This is a great opportunity for a soon to be or recent graduate of an archival program interested in building their resume with experience in a technologically sophisticated archives and special collections operation.

Interested applicants should apply online at www.rollinsjobs.com with a letter of application, a current vita, and the names, addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses of three professional references.
