The Commissioner of the West Virginia Division of Culture and History is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Archives and History. The successful applicant will, among other duties:
- Serve as State historian and archivist, promoting the statewide collection, preservation and dissemination of West Virginia's documentary heritage.
- Locate, acquire, preserve and protect documents having historical value to the State of West Virginia.
- Operate, manage and maintain the state archive library for the acquisition and preservation of public records, state papers, documents and reports.
- Serve as the secretary of the Archives and History Commission.
- Direct the County Records Management and Preservation, Project Access, Veterans Memorial and Historic Highway Marker programs.
- Supervise the Archives and History staff, prepare the section budget, ensure the efficient operation of the section, and make recommendations about the adaptation of technology.
- Deliver presentations to legislative committees, record management groups and others, such as historical societies.
