Assistant Archivist

Stanford University currently has an excellent opportunity available for an Assistant University Archivist to manage and interpret the collections of the University Archives, including university records, faculty papers, records of student organizations, memorabilia, photographs, maps, video and audio materials and electronic records. We'll rely on you to consult with the University Archivist on the appraisal and selection of university records and other archival materials to be transferred to the University Archives, assist in identifying and procuring archival materials related to the research and curricular needs at Stanford, prepare specialized guides, reports, lists, catalogs and collection evaluations and take responsibility for the preservation of archival material. You will also serve on the Department of Special Collections and University Archives public service desk, manage the University Archives website, participate in the Archives instruction program and preparation of exhibitions and publications, and supervise a part-time support staff employee.

This is an 18-month fixed-term position with the possibility of extension.

To qualify, you should have an ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent in theory and practice, graduate study preferably in the humanities or social sciences, formal archival training at the graduate level and working knowledge of the scholarly use of primary research materials. Excellent communication, analytical, organization and interpersonal skills are essential, along with initiative and the demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly and effectively. Knowledge of the history of Stanford would be a plus.
