The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world's finest museums, seeks an Archivist to be responsible for the management of the archives and supervision of archival staff. This senior-level Archivist will report directly to the Assistant Secretary/Manager. In addition, this position will work with the Counsel's Office and archival staff to evaluate current and future needs of the archives function. Along with the other archivists, the position will be responsible for processing, filing and research of the Museum's business records (Trustee documentation, minutes, acquisition paperwork such as gift and purchase documents, etc.) from the General Counsel's Office. Other duties include research for other Museum departments and outside researchers regarding historical information.

The successful candidate will focus their energy on ensuring the smooth and efficient daily operations of Archives. Duties include supervising archival staff members, interns and volunteers; determining staffing needs, training and supervising staff; managing performance; determining work assignments and work schedules; reviewing structure and function of the Archives and its alignment with the mission, goals and needs; making recommendations to the Assistant Secretary for improvements and/or changes; overseeing archival collections, filing systems and work to maintain the integrity of existing files; processing and filing administrative and other business documents submitted to Archives; reviewing/assigning credit lines for works of art; responding to research inquiries, both internally and externally; overseeing the on-site Archives Annex and future space needs for the Archives; and other related duties as the need arises.

The qualified professional the Museum seeks holds a Master's Degree in Archival Studies and/or Library Science and archival certification is desirable. This senior archival professional also has ten or more years of experience in archival settings managing historical records of a large institution, preferably a museum or library and is an experienced manager who exercises diplomacy, tact, discretion and sound judgment. Must demonstrate the ability to work well with many different people and functions within the Museum and outside; strong leadership skills and ability to lead in an environment of change while considering a culture of long-standing processes; proficiency with computer programs: Microsoft Office, TMS Database, Digital Imaging/Scanning; and attention to detail. Must also possess the ability to lift 40 lbs.

The Archivist position is full-time and includes full benefits. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
