EXHIBIT I
SALARY SURVEY
SOCIETY OF AMERICAN ARCHIVISTS
NOVEMBER, 1996
Dear Colleague:
The Society of American Archivists is conducting a salary survey of its members. This reference tool for determining archival salaries will serve as a benchmark for current conditions and future strategic efforts. Your participation is vital.
Developed by a steering committee of your peers in cooperation with the association management consulting firm of Lawrence-Leiter and Company, this survey seeks to compile data which will provide members with targeted statistical information. As you will see, the survey addresses a variety of factors including geographic location, institution type and budget, years of experience, archival training, and professional activities.
Please take a few minutes to complete and return the survey in the self-addressed envelope by December 6, 1996. The information is confidential, and we request that you not write your name on the survey. Your answers will be aggregated with all others who respond, and a complete report will be produced by Lawrence-Leiter and Company. Returned questionnaires will be destroyed after six months.
Survey results will be available by February 1, 1997. Some of the findings will be published in the March issue of Archival Outlook. Comprehensive survey results will be available for a nominal charge to SAA members and non-members. On behalf of the SAA leadership and the salary survey steering committee, I thank you for your participation in and continued support of the archival profession.
Sincerely,
Nicholas C. Burckel, SAA President
